When Dr. Ortega first began operating High Sierra Dental Care in 1999, she brought with her high tech diagnostic tools such as digital radiography. She has since computerized the entire operatory, including intraoral cameras and lasers.
Dr. Ortega provides dental services for the entire family, from children to adults, ranging from Orthodontics (Wire and Invisible Braces) to Cosmetics and Implant Procedures. She offers fillings, bonding, veneers, crowns, bridges, dentures, and simple to complicated extractions (Oral Surgery).
Patient care usually begins with cleanings in order to prepare the teeth for the restorative care required.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Ortega is a past panel member for the State of California’s “Healthy Families Program”, she was on the California Dental Association’s Council on Community Health, and she has been involved with several community related Dental Issues such as access to care and improving dental health for the overall population.
In 2010, Dr. Ortega started a program for children who do not have dental insurance and are not eligible for any dental assistance. The Young Tahoe Smile program provides dental care at $5 to $10 per visit to children of families who qualify.
She is also active in various local community organizations.
After completing her post graduate residency, Dr. Ortega became a full time faculty member at UCLA teaching dentistry to 1st through post graduate students. While there, Dr. Ortega also maintained a private practice within the UCLA faculty group practice. During this period she was also Director of Venice Dental Center, a 22 chair facility housing both undergraduate and post graduate Dental Programs.
She was instrumental in creating and implementing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry Program at the Venice Dental Center and was responsible for clinical instruction for second year through post graduate dental students.
Dr. Ortega is a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, The Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society. and and Sports Dentistry Society.
Her professional appointments include Associate Adjunct Professor, UCLA School of Dentistry, Director of Venice Dental Center and Advanced Education in General Dentistry Programs, Council on Community Health, California Dental Association, and Member of the State of California Healthy Families Advisory Panel Committee.
Dr. Ortega received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology in 1979 from Whittier College in California and completed her Doctor of Dental Science degree from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 1987. Her General Practice Residency was performed at the Wadsworth VA Hospital in Los Angeles, California in 1987 and 1988.
She is fluent in both English and Spanish.

Both our receptionist, Rosie and Dental Assistant Margarita have been with the practice for over 10 years. They focus on assisting our patients with all aspects of dental care from appointments, insurance questions, financial issues to procedures rendered.
